Children’s Book Donation Point

From next week, if you pop in to The Works on Exeter High Street, you will see this poster attached to a collection basket. You can donate any of these items and we will be delighted!!

Why do Exeter Foodbank want books?

Well…

Almost one in five children in this country do not own a book or have a book in their home.

Many of our volunteers are parents who read or have read to our children and we love stories.

A few months ago one of our volunteers bought five books to give away. Families were so happy to receive them. So we started a book table for children’s books and it has gone from strength to strength.

We have had some parents who are themselves learning to read who have taken books to read with their children.

We have had refugees who have taken books to read English to their children so that they can learn together.

We have given books to grandparents who don’t have books for visiting children.

We have given most books for parents to read bedtime stories.

To us, this is important.
